Nerd Camp, (written by Elissa Brent Weissman) is a book about a 10-year boy named Gabe who goes to the SCGE; the Summer Center for Gifted Enrichment.  (A.K.A.  Smart Camp for Geeks and Eggheads).

Have you ever been called a nerd, or a geek before in school?  Well Gabe certainly has, but he’s never really paid it any mind–after all, he loves to learn!  Gabe is all about reading, doing complicated math problems, writing poems and rhymes and even TV shows like Jeopardy!

And there’s never been a problem with any of this stuff, not until he learns some pretty great news.  He’s getting a sibling!  His parents are divorced, but he stays over at his dad’s on weekends.  So when his dad is getting remarried to a lady who already has a boy Gabe’s age, Gabe is very excited at the idea of finally having a brother!

But when he finally meets his new brother-to-be, Zack…  Zack has a cellphone, a cool hairdo, a slight attitude and despises school.  Gabe is getting really worried–Zack hates everything to do with school and that’s about all that Gabe has to talk about!

Gabe tries his hardest to act cool and totally ‘un-nerdy’ around his soon-to-be brother, but it’s kind of hard when your brother learns that you’re going to sleep-away camp, the very place that Zack has been wanting to go for years!

Gabe tries his hardest to keep the fact that he’s going to a ‘Nerd Camp’ from Zack while he also tries to figure out something else…

Problem:  Am I a nerd who only has nerdy adventures?

Hypothesis:  No

Why I liked this book:  It was funny and you can actually learn stuff from it.

Why I didn’t like this book:  I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like about it!

😉

Next week on Friday I will do a review of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’.
